What are Porcelain Veneers?

A porcelain veneer is a very thin piece of durable, tooth shaped porcelain that is custom made for the right shape and colour by a professional dental laboratory. The dental veneer is bonded onto the front of the tooth (or teeth) to create beautiful looking teeth and an attractive smile.

Porcelain veneers can be used to reshape your teeth and smile. They are alternatives to dental crowns and are a good solution for treating a number of dental conditions. As with other dental restorations, dental veneers are not permanent and will likely need to be replaced in future years due to wear. However, veneers are durable and will last for a number of years.

A dental veneer is a good choice for cosmetic reasons. Meadows Gate Dental can provide porcelain veneers to improve the look of your teeth, especially if you have stained or pitted teeth.

When to Consider Dental Veneers?

If you need to create a uniform and white, beautiful smile.

Porcelain Veneer Procedure

Veneers require two visits:

At the first visit, the teeth that will be receiving the veneers require a light buffing or ‘roughing’ and need to be shaped to allow for the layer of veneer (so that the veneer ‘sticks’ to the tooth and so that the veneer is not too bulky over the tooth).
A mold or impression of the teeth will be taken and we will help you choose a matching shade or colour of white (to match the rest of your teeth) or, if veneers are being applied to all visible teeth, to choose a brighter and whiter colour.
At the second visit, the teeth will be carefully cleaned to achieve a durable bond. A bonding cement is then placed between the teeth and veneer. A light beam is used to harden and set the bond quickly.

We will provide you with care instructions for your veneers. With proper oral hygiene (including brushing and flossing) and regular visits to our office, your dental veneers will last a long time.
